ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS NEEDED FOR A NEW SAIL NUMBER

An eagle is a bird, but not all birds are eagles! Wilbur A. Morse once defined the Friendship Sloop as "A sloop built in Friendship, Maine by Wilbur Morse!" A sloop built by Wilbur Morse is eligible for a Friendship Sloop Society Sail Number, but all Sail Numbers are not limited to sloops built by Wilbur Morse.

Article VI.c: (The authentication committee) shall rule on the eligibility of sloop owners applying for membership in the Society. Two classes shall be established and defined as follows:

Class "A" Originals ---- Bonafide Friendship Sloops built before 1920 and approved by the authentication committee

Class "B" True Replicas ---- Sloops built after 1920 and approved by the authentication committee.

In order for the authentication committee to determine whether or not your sloop is eligible, please provide as much information as available! As a minimum, PLEASE PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPHS; particularly photographs of the hull which illustrate the bottom shape and photographs while under sail. If your sloop was built from customer designed plans, it is requested that a copy of the plans be provided for the Society archival collection.
